How to Follow Through on Your New Year’s Resolutions

How to Follow Through on Your New Year’s Resolutions

The holidays are here, and soon enough you’ll be shedding your monogrammed layers in favor of something more sparkly; New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. Every year, we promise ourselves we’ll make personal improvements and, usually, come mid-February, we’ve given up faster than Kim K did on her first marriage. So how do we break the habit and follow through on our New Year’s resolutions? United Monograms has a few ideas to get you inspired and help you beat the odds (#NewYearNewMe). Keep reading for our tips on how to follow through on your New Year’s Resolutions and make a splash in 2018!

Define your goals

First things first; decide what your intentions are for the new year and write them down - not just in the notes section of your phone, but with a pen and (monogrammed) paper. Clearly stating the things you’d like to accomplish this year will make you more likely to actually get them done. Be more specific than “I’d like to work out more.” Instead, call out that “I’d like to go to three yoga classes a week for the next six months!” to help you identify what you’d like to accomplish and figure out what you need to get yourself there. Confidence is key, so don’t be afraid to set goals that scare you - stand tall knowing you’re going to accomplish amazing things in the new year.

Make a plan - and personalize it!

Make a plan - and personalize it!

Now that you’ve determined your goals, it’s time to get organized (this is the fun part). Open up your Lilly Pulitzer planner - or any planner (we won't judge) - and go to town making your plan of attack. If you want to spend less money, create a budget to help you stay on track. If you want to eat healthier, make a meal plan for the next two weeks that lays out your healthy food choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Make a schedule that helps you plan time around accomplishing your goals because to achieve them you’ll have to make them a priority.

Share your goals

Share your goals

Talking about your goals with friends and family creates a support system that will help keep you accountable and motivated. You don’t need to make a Facebook status announcing your New Year’s resolution to the world (we’ll still love you if you do, but please don’t be that person), but sharing your ambitions with the people closest to you is smart, healthy and helpful. Let your loved ones be your cheerleaders and therapists on this new journey into 2018.

If you fall, get right back up

United Monograms

We all have slip-ups, it’s human nature. But if you do, remember that doing something is better than doing nothing. If you’ve promised to eat healthier but had french fries at dinner, don’t decide that since you’ve already had fries, you might as well have dessert. Follow through with your goals, and keep pushing even when you have a misstep. True confidence shines brighter than even the most flawless inner highlight, so wear it with pride- just like you do with your Monogram!

Don’t forget to celebrate!

Don't Forget to Celebrate - United Monograms

Remember to have fun! Have a glass of champagne and celebrate the small victories. Creating confidence in yourself is half the battle. Once you believe you’ll achieve your goals, the rest will fall into place - trust us. This year, celebrate how far you’ve come since 2017 and all you’re destined to accomplish in 2018. Set goals, be confident, keep personalizing your style, and have some fun along the way. 2018 is going to be a great year for YOU if you set your mind to it. A confident girl stands out, so don't be afraid to put your name (or your monogram) proudly on everything in 2018.

Happy holidays from United Monograms!
